Moratti opens door to Mourinho return

Posted by admin | Soccer News | Friday 3 September 2010 19:51

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti said he would be open to former coach Jose Mourinho one day returning to the club.

Moratti was speaking in reply to Real Madrid coach Mourinho having claimed earlier that he could see himself returning to coach in Italy again some day.

But while Moratti wasn’t ruling out such a possibility, he said that doesn’t mean he doesn’t trust Mourinho’s successor, Rafael Benitez.

“Everything’s possible but I’m counting on Benitez and I hope he does well because I believe in him,” he told Sky Sport.

“Mourinho also said these things about Chelsea, it’s a cute thing to say but you can’t have nostalgia in life otherwise we should be thinking about (legendary Inter coach Helenio) Herrera.

“We love Mourinho and we’re grateful for what he did but now Benitez is at Inter to do well and we hope to be grateful to him too.”

Spurs wait on van der Vaart transfer

Posted by admin | Soccer News | Wednesday 1 September 2010 14:06

English Premier League club Tottenham were still awaiting clearance Wedensday on the last-gasp, cut-price transfer of Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart from Real Madrid.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp became aware of 27-year-old van der Vaart’s availability just two hours before the transfer deadline.

Redknapp claimed the Holland star had been due to join Bayern Munich for 18 million pounds but the move broke down on Monday, and Spurs had swooped in a bid to sign the player for a slashed eight million.

“It’s still dragging on. We are just waiting to see whether it’s all gone through,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

“We are waiting for clearance. The chairman is dealing with it and Darren Eales the secretary, there is nothing more I can do now.”

Redknapp revealed he turned his attention to van der Vaart, who played in the World Cup final in South Africa, once it became apparent that Real were prepared to part with him in a cut-price deal.

“I think he was going to Bayern Munich yesterday for about 18 million, but suddenly it became an awful lot cheaper,” he said.

“He is available now for about eight million. He is a quality player. He is a Dutch international and a great footballer.

“For that sort of money, he is a top player and he will improve us for sure. We have made the effort, whether we can pull it off or not we will have to see.

“I am hopeful. It could happen. It was a last-minute job. When I came in this morning (Tuesday) it certainly wasn’t something I was looking to do.”

On the attributes Van der Vaart would bring to Tottenham, Redknapp said: “He is a great passer of the ball, he is a top footballer. He will join in here and play the way we like to play, he would be a big plus for us.

“He looked like he was going for 18 million but then the fee came crashing down because the deadline got close. If the chairman can pull it off, I think he will have got a real bargain.”

Rotterdam born Drenthe is a Feyenoord youth product. He rose to prominence after some excellent performances for the Netherlands at the 2007 European Under-21 Championship and was snapped up by Real for €14m.

Drenthe made a total of 38 league appearances for Real in the 07-08 and 08-09 seasons, but played only eight times for Los Merengues last season.

Besiktas hopeful of Keane bid

Posted by admin | Soccer News | Wednesday 1 September 2010 13:57

Turkish club Besiktas have made an audacious late bid to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane on a season-long loan, according to reports.

Besiktas, who had already failed in their bid to sign Manchester City forward Robinho earlier this month, are hoping to lure Keane with the guarantee of regular first team football.

And Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp confirmed that the club may let him leave.

“Maybe (there will be) one or two loans going out,” said Redknapp. “We have got a practice match this morning. I am just going to watch that and I think it will be a quiet day.”

Besiktas coach Bernd Schuster, who previously managed Real Madrid, has already recruited Guti from the Bernabeu and Ricardo Quaresma from Internazionale as he looks to boost the club’s profile.

Keane has found his chances limited at White Hart Lane with manager Harry Redknapp preferring to use Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko.

The Republic of Ireland captain was loaned to Celtic for the second half of last season and he has been repeatedly linked with another temporary move away from White Hart Lane.

Sami Khedira has completed his move to Real Madrid. The Stuttgart midfielder will sign a five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Khedira, who moves to Madrid for €15million, had been continually linked with a move to Real after his impressive performances at the World Cup.

Stuttgart sporting director Fredi Bobic says the club could not deny Khedira his ‘dream move’ to Real Madrid.

“Sami Khedira is a true leader on the pitch and he personifies everything that Stuttgart stand for. Therefore, it’s not easy to let go of him,” he told the official Stuttgart website.

“However, on the other hand, we couldn’t deny Sami his dream move to Real Madrid. We’d like to wish him all the best at his new club.”

Kaka interests Ancelotti

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is interested with the prospects of reuniting with Brazil midfielder Kaka. The Italian tactician has confirmed that he is in regular contact with the Real Madrid star.

Ancelotti has expressed his interest in Kaka’s skills, claiming that the Brazilian would help the coach’s cause at Stamford Bridge. Ancelotti would love to tempt the midfielder to the Premier League champions.

Ancelotti worked with Kaka at Milan with the Brazilian’s future still in the dark following the arrival of former Blues’ manager Jose Mourinho as Real Madrid manager.

The Italian told The People: “Kaka would do well for my cause and I speak to him on a regular basis. It would be a multi-million pound operation.”

Suarez wants Premier League move

Posted by admin | Soccer News | Sunday 11 July 2010 17:47

Ajax striker Luis Suarez has admitted he would be keen on a move to the Premier League this summer.

Manchester United and Tottenham are among the clubs the 23-year-old Uruguayan star would be interested in joining.

“I am not going to make any secret of my admiration for the Premier League,” he told the Daily Star on Sunday.

“What I love about it is the fact that there are five or six Champions League quality teams in the league – and no other league in the world boasts that.

“When you look at the players Manchester City and Liverpool have like Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Javier Mascherano, David Silva, Yaya Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor and see they are playing Uefa Cup and not Champions League football, it tells you everything you need to know about the strength of the league.

“I know I have had a very good World Cup and with that naturally comes interest from other clubs.

“If a Premier League side comes in for me it will be very difficult for Ajax to keep me and I think they are fully aware of that.”

“Manchester United are a great side and, along with Real Madrid are the most prestigious club in the world,” Suarez added.

“You know if you join Manchester United and are there for any length of time you will win things.

“Tottenham hold appeal as well though, they are a team with great ambition and have done well to reach the Champions League.

“I like team that have shown ambition through the money they spend.

“If there are multiple offers form the Premier League I will take time to decide – but at the moment they are the two clubs that stand out for me.”

Japan hero Honda wants to move to Europe´s elite

Japan’s World Cup hero and CSKA Moscow midfielder Keisuke Honda has confirmed his desire to move to Europe’s bigger clubs, with Real Madrid ultimately in his sights, press reports said Tuesday.

Honda scored two goals and set up another in leading Japan to their first-ever World Cup second-round on foreign soil, amid media reports linking him with a move to AC Milan.

Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Chelsea and Manchester City are also believed to be interested in signing Honda, who turned 24 on the eve of Japan’s 1-0 upset of Cameroon in their World Cup opener.

Japan lost 1-0 to the Netherlands but stunned Denmark 3-1 in their final group game to reach the last 16. They bowed out to Paraguay 5-3 on penalties after a scoreless draw.

“I think you all know what my wish is. I’m always looking up,” Honda told students Monday at his high school in the provincial city of Kanazawa, according to media reports, when asked about his future in the Russian league.

Honda has already stated his desire to play in England or Spain, where he says he would eventually like to don the number 10 shirt for Real Madrid.

He said he was currently unaware of a possible transfer. But he later told local governor Masanori Tanimoto, in a conversation caught on camera: “I have been doing my job with a wish to play at higher levels. So if there is a chance, it will be possible.”

After four years with J-League powerhouse Nagoya Grampus, Honda moved to Dutch side VVV Venlo in early 2008 and helped them gain to promotion to the top Dutch league.

He joined CSKA in January in a nine-million-euro (11.5-million-dollar) deal. He set up a goal and scored another in a 3-2 aggregate victory over Sevilla in the Champions League, making him the first Japanese player to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Honda could cost bidders as much as 20 million euros, the Sports Hochi daily said.

CSKA has turned down a proposal from AC Milan to pay 10 million euros for Honda, the daily said, citing Italian media.
